Paul joined Queens as Squash Professional following a successful 4 year term in the same position at Harrogate Squash and Fitness Centre. Originally from Scunthopre in Lincolnshire, he has a wealth of experience both as a top level coach and player and brings this together with his overall enthusiasm for all aspects of the game, to Queens.
Paul first qualified as a Squash Coach in 1995 at the age of 16, providing coaching at his local club whilst also training as a playing professional under the guidance of Malcolm Willstrop at Pontefract, where he worked alongside players such as Lee Beachill and James Willstrop. He reached number 2 in the National under 19 rankings, and gained 3 caps for England in this age group. His senior world ranking at this time was 198. Winning county and regional (East Midlands) titles at all junior age groups, Paul is the current Lincolnshire Mens County Champion and has won this title a record 7 times.
Upon joining the senior ranks, Paul's interest shifted towards the coaching side of the game. He quickly found himself engaged by several clubs around Lincolnshire to provide individual and group coaching to players of all abilities, and soon became involved in working with the Lincolnshire Junior Squads. In 2001 he was appointed Squash Professional at Harrogate, where he also launched his racket and equipment sales company, ProShop. Shortly after taking the position, Paul achieved the England Squash Level 3 Advanced Coach award, which in turn attracted several talented juniors from the region to Harrogate for tuition. In 2004 he achieved the ultimate squash qualification - England Squash Level 4 Elite Coach. This success has been rewarded with frequent invitations to work with the Junior National Squads.
Paul is proud to have left Harrogate with a very healthy junior section, having seen several players he took on as beginners now representing Yorkshire. In his final season at Harrogate, Paul captained their Yorkshire Premier League side to a history making league and cup double.
Alongside his duties at Queens, Paul has also been appointed North East Area Academy Coach by England Squash. This will involve providing squad training for the most talented juniors across Yorkshire, Durham & Cleveland and Northumbria, and managing the side for the Inter Area Team Championships.
In addition to the day to day running of the Queens squash section, Paul will be providing an extensive coaching programme to individuals and squads. His ProShop business will operate from the club, offering a wide range of top quality equipment, clothing, accessories and racket repair services.
Paul will be pleased to discuss any aspect of the game with members, be it to provide advice or listen to ideas. He will have a keen interest in the running of the Queens teams, and in particular will be hoping to successfully defend the National Super League and Racketball Titles.
